⚠️ Scene 1: The Warning Signs

Domain in Crisis

TRICKSTER:

"You arrive in The Chrysalis—a domain of eternal spring, butterflies, and gardens. Except... something's wrong. The flowers are wilting in real-time. Butterflies drop from the sky mid-flight, dissolving into ash. The sky is cracking like glass."

"An old woman—the local guide—runs up to you. 'Thank the void you're here! The Genius is dying. The domain has maybe three hours before total collapse. We need help evacuating the bastions!'"

NORA (Jamie):

"I immediately check the domain's Willpower. Can I roll Lore to assess how much time we actually have?"

TRICKSTER:

"Yes. Anima + Lore, TN 14. This is crucial information."

NORA:

"Anima +5, Lore +4, so 9 dice. (rolls) 19! Critical success!"

TRICKSTER:

"Nora, you can feel the domain's pulse like a dying heartbeat. Current Willpower: 2/15. It's dropping 1 point every 30 minutes. You have exactly 60 minutes until collapse—not three hours. And here's the kicker: there are four bastions, each with 20-30 people. You can't save everyone in an hour."

⏱️ Scene 2: Triage Decision

Moral Dilemma

GRIM (Taylor):

"Okay, brutal truth time. Four bastions, 100 people total, one hour. We can maybe save... what, 40? 50?"

LYRA (Casey):

"No. We're not doing utilitarian calculus on human lives. There has to be another way."

NORA:

"What if we stabilize the domain instead? Stop the collapse?"

TRICKSTER:

"The guide shakes her head. 'The Genius is beyond saving. A parasite—something from the Flux—has been feeding on it for months. We didn't realize until too late.' She points to a distant crystalline structure. 'That's the Genius's heart. If you want to try something desperate, that's where you'd go.'"

GRIM:

"Split up. Lyra and I evacuate as many as we can. Nora goes to the heart, tries to buy us more time. Sound good?"

NORA:

"I'll do it. How far is the heart?"

TRICKSTER:

"Twenty minutes through a collapsing garden. You'll need Survival checks to navigate safely, and you'll be alone."

🏃 Scene 3: Split Party Chaos

Evacuation Team (Grim & Lyra)

GRIM:

"We hit the nearest bastion first. 'Everyone out, NOW! Domain's collapsing!' I use Intimidation to get them moving fast."

TRICKSTER:

"Roll Umbra + Intimidation, TN 12. Success means they panic in the right direction—toward the exit portal."

GRIM:

"Umbra +3, Intimidation +2. 5 dice. (rolls) 14! They're moving!"

TRICKSTER:

"Twenty-three people stampede toward the portal. But—an old man trips, falls. The ground cracks beneath him. He's hanging over a void. Lyra, you're closest. What do you do? You have 10 seconds to decide."

LYRA:

"I grab him! Athletics check!"

TRICKSTER:

"Forma + Athletics, TN 16—he's heavy and you're on unstable ground."

LYRA:

"Forma +2, Athletics... I don't have Athletics. Just 2 dice. (rolls) ...8. I failed."

TRICKSTER:

"You grab his wrist, but the ground gives way. You're both sliding toward the void. Grim—do you go back to help, or keep evacuating?"

GRIM:

"(without hesitation) I go back. Drop my pack, grab Lyra's other arm, pull them both up."

TRICKSTER:

"Forma + Athletics, TN 14. But you're helping Lyra, so she can re-roll with advantage."

GRIM:

"Forma +4, Athletics +3. 7 dice. (rolls) 17! We're good!"

TRICKSTER:

"You haul them both to safety. The old man is crying, thanking you. But—you just lost 5 minutes. The clock is ticking. 40 minutes left. Three bastions remain."

Solo Mission (Nora)

NORA:

"I'm running toward the heart. What obstacles do I hit?"

TRICKSTER:

"The garden is dying around you. Trees uproot themselves and fall. Flowers explode into clouds of toxic pollen. The path splits three ways—left through fire, center through a collapsing bridge, right through a swarm of dying, hostile butterflies. Pick your poison."

NORA:

"I'll use Lore to identify which is safest. The domain is dying—what makes sense narratively?"

TRICKSTER:

"(smiles) I love when players use narrative logic. Roll Anima + Lore, TN 10. You're an expert."

NORA:

"(rolls) 21. Definitely a success."

TRICKSTER:

"You realize: the butterflies are the domain's immune system. They're hostile because you're foreign. But if you could communicate that you're here to help... Umbra + Empathy, TN 16, to commune with the dying Genius through its guardians."

NORA:

"Umbra +2, no Empathy skill. 2 dice. (rolls) ...9. Failed."

TRICKSTER:

"The butterflies swarm you. You take 3 damage from acid-wing cuts as you sprint through them. But—you make it through injured but alive. The heart is ahead. 15 minutes left."

💀 Scene 4: The Parasite

Final Confrontation

NORA:

"I reach the heart. What do I see?"

TRICKSTER:

"The Genius's heart is a massive crystal butterfly, barely glowing. Wrapped around it is a black, pulsing mass—the parasite. It's feeding, draining the last of the Genius's life. You have three options:

  • 1. **Kill the parasite** (Combat, might kill the Genius too)
  • 2. **Sever the connection** (Occult, risky surgery on a dying god)
  • 3. **Bargain with it** (Social Exchange with an alien intelligence)

"What do you do? 10 minutes left."

NORA:

"I try to bargain. I address the parasite: 'You're killing your host. When the domain dies, you die too. Let me help you find a new food source.'"

TRICKSTER:

"The parasite's thoughts slither into your mind. Images: hunger, endless hunger, the Genius tasted so good. It doesn't understand death—only feeding. Umbra + Persuasion, TN 18. You're negotiating with something that doesn't think like you."

NORA:

"Umbra +2, no Persuasion. Just 2 dice. (rolls) ...6. That's a failure."

TRICKSTER:

"It doesn't understand. It wraps a tendril around your arm—tasting you. You feel your essence draining. Take 2 damage and 1 Willpower damage. Do you fight it or try something else? 5 minutes left."

NORA:

"Desperate idea: what if I offer myself as a temporary host? It leaves the Genius, latches onto me, buys time for Grim and Lyra to finish the evacuation. Then I escape through a portal before it consumes me completely."

TRICKSTER:

"(pauses) That's... incredibly dangerous and selfless. The table goes quiet. I lean forward. 'Nora—are you sure? This could kill your character.' What do you say?"

NORA:

"'Those people need more time. I do it.'"

TRICKSTER:

"The parasite senses fresh essence. It releases the Genius and latches onto you. Agony. You scream. Your Willpower drops to 0. You're dying—but the Genius gasps to life. Its crystal brightens. Domain Willpower jumps from 1 to 5. You just bought the domain 2.5 more hours. Roll Forma + Survival, TN 20, to stay conscious long enough to escape."

NORA:

"Forma +1, Survival... I don't have it. 1 die. (rolls) ...3. I failed."

TRICKSTER:

"You collapse. The world goes black. Meanwhile—cut to Grim and Lyra. The domain stabilizes. The sky stops cracking. Lyra, you feel... something. Umbra check."

LYRA:

"(rolls Umbra) 15."

TRICKSTER:

"You sense Nora—faint, dying, at the heart. Grim, Lyra looks at you and says one word: 'Nora.' What do you do?"

GRIM:

"We run. We save her. Now."
