Domain Merging

When two realities collide, they don't just overlap—they merge. Domain merging is a cataclysmic event that rewrites the laws of nature, creating hybrid worlds of wonder and terror.

The Fusion Process

Step-by-Step Fusion

Merging is rarely instant. It is a violent process that can take days or weeks.

  1. 1. The Approach (1-7 Days): Portals between domains widen uncontrollably. Gravity shifts. Skies bleed colors from the other realm.
    Effect: All Navigation checks TN +5.
  2. 2. The Collision (Event): The moment of impact. Massive earthquakes/reality quakes.
    Effect: 3d10 damage to all exposed creatures. DEX Save (TN 15) for half.
  3. 3. The Churn (3-10 Days): Landscapes fold over each other. Buildings merge.
    Effect: "Wild Magic" zones appear randomly.
  4. 4. Stabilization: The new laws of physics settle. A new Domain Name is chosen by the collective unconscious (or The Count).
    The domains merge. Travelers gain access to both domains' rules but risk Drift instability until a new equilibrium is established.

Hybrid Mechanics

Ecosystem Blending

Roll 1d6 to determine dominance:

  • 1-2: Dominant A. Domain A's terrain overwrites B, but B's weather remains.
  • 3-4: Patchwork. A checkerboard of distinct zones with hard borders.
  • 5-6: True Hybrid. A new, fused environment (e.g., Forest + City = Living Tree-Skyscrapers).

Blessing/Curse Integration

The metaphysical weight combines.

  • Blessings: All persist. If contradictory (Fire Immunity vs. Flammable Skin), they cancel out.
  • Curses: They stack. A merged domain is always more dangerous initially.
  • Willpower: (Willpower A + Willpower B) / 2. Round down.

Merged Domain Examples

The Ashen Tangle

Parents:
The Verdant Tangle (Jungle) + The Scorched Plain (Desert)

Description: A jungle where trees burn eternally without being consumed. It rains hot ash instead of water. The river is flowing glass.

New Blessing: Phoenix Heart. Fire heals you instead of harming (max 5HP/round).

New Curse: Desiccation. You must drink 4x normal water or gain Exhaustion.

The Clockwork Ocean

Parents:
The Gearworks (Machine) + The Drowned Quarter (Water)

Description: A boundless sea of oil and gears. Waves are driven by massive pistons beneath the surface. Mechanical fish swim in schools of thousands.

New Blessing: Iron Lung. Breathe oil and water freely.

New Curse: Rust. All non-magical metal gear corrodes in 1d4 hours.

The Silent Carnival

Parents:
The Eternal Circus (Joy) + The Library of Silence (Quiet)

Description: A vibrant, colorful festival where no sound is permitted. Mimes are the ruling caste. Laughter must be silent or face execution.

New Blessing: Telepathic Projection. Communicate without words (range 60ft).

New Curse: Voice Thief. Attempting to speak deals 1d6 Psychic damage to the speaker.

Stability & Dissolution

Stabilizing a Merger

Players can help stabilize a new domain by:

  • Forging a Crown: Creating an artifact that embodies both aspects.
  • Marriage of Rulers: Uniting the Exalted of both parents.
  • The Count's Seal: Paying a massive Ledger debt to have The Count ratify the union.
